On the Issues
Our infrastructure deserves immediate attention, Increased property taxes, decrease property value, crime, public safety, education, unemployment, lack of efforts to engage our diverse community, an accountable city government, traditional
thinking and youth issues have all increasingly become critical.
During the past 15 years, and as a direct result of the past 8-10 years, our city leadership, unfortunately, hasn't kept pace with the changing dynamics and demands of our city. Their unwillingness to readily confront the real challenges and issues
combined with being truly disconnected from the true realities of our diverse community has directly resulted in a poor infrastructure and has contributed immensely to the rise in crime, public feeling unsafe and the lack of businesses, fine dining,
jobs and opportunities within our community and city. Their traditional way of thinking has also directly and negatively impacted and stagnated our growth and development and is hindering our future economic stability and viability.
Our city leadership continues to place their focus on building more property which equals more property taxes, and as a result, is utilizing all our available land resources... Basic Economics 101 says, a city can't survive and/or you can't revive a
city on property taxes alone, We Need Businesses and a City Manager and Community Development Director, that's wiling to do their job and invite business here! Because as you can see over the past 10 years that
common-sense theory has been totally absent from their discussions. As we again haven't seen the evolution of new business growth in Brooklyn Park. Take a look around and don't be afraid this is our city!
Factual and True
1. Our property taxes are amongst the highest in the state and we have none of the following;
2. We have no real white table cloth fine dining and a very limited choice of restaurants
3. We have very few places to shop and purchase a suit, dress, shoes etc.
4. We have no 9-5 businesses to make people want to come here to shop, dine etc.
5. No public transportation and an over crowded and outdated Library
6. We have no business here to make the state complete Hwy 610
7. No Movie Theatre, museums and/or entertainment
8. We have no downtown and/or anything remotely similar to a downtown
9. We gave Target a 20 year tax abatement in exchange for a hotel, retail shopping and 100 new single family homes
we as taxpayers need to see results from this abatement.
10. We have to many empty promises and stale talks from our so-called leaders, to reach out to our youth who have no clue and/or know how to make things happen
11. If 30% of our residents leave our city and spend their dollars elsewhere, we receive no taxes benefits from their spending
12. You rarely if at all, see any of them, unless it's an event organized by the city
13. Our City Council didn't take any action and/or disposition, as a result of the Mayor's huge contribution to our already negative image
14. Our city leaders depends to much on petty fines to help run our city
15. Our city places to many restriction on businesses, making it uninviting, unwelcoming, unfriendly and unkind to new businesses
16. 75% of our youth are not engaged in after school programs and 30% have never been or are unaware of any existing programs
17. They are committed to serving a select group of people and not all stake holders that elected them or the entire District they represent
18. They do not attend diverse events in and around the city presented by various ethnic groups and organizations to pro-actively engage our diverse community
19. They are unwilling to discuss and confront the real issues that for so long have plagued this community
20. Where were our city leaders and Department heads when Maple Grove was negotiating with businesses to come to Maple Grove and more recently everyone knew, that Brookdale Mall was closing, why didn't our City Manager and/or
Community Development Director invite those Fortune 500 Companies like Footlocker, Payless Shoes, Kay Jewelers, Champs, Barnes and Nobles etc, to come to Brooklyn Park in exchange for making it mandatory to hire 30% Brooklyn
Parkers and/or offering similar Tax abatement incentives, just like the city handed to Target and we haven't seen no return on that failed investment?
