Brooklyn Park Central District City Council
" A Progressive Voice of Hope and Change"
About Boyd

Boyd Morson is the "People's Choice in the Central District" to campaign in the 2008
General Election against the incumbent for change, November 4th!

Boyd has a longstanding background and commitment to serving
in the community. As a Program Developer and Grant Writer, he
have developed and organized community outreached programs for the
City, Inc. and Pilot City. He coached and mentored youth from the North
side of Minneapolis for many years. Most recently he served as
Vice-Chair of the Brooklyn Park Human Rights Commission
and Vice-President of the League of Minnesota Human Rights
Commission.

As the Vice-Chair of the BPHRC, he introduced the
Celebrating the
Many Faces of Brooklyn Park
to the city, two years ago. An event
that offers an opportunity for the city diverse residents to become
engaged and involved in the city. while providing all stakeholders
an opportunity to come meet, greet and learn about the many ethnic
groups we have within our community. An event to help build a bridge of understanding, communication and
relationship amongst our many uniquely enriched and culturally diverse population. And during the month of
January, the coldest month in Minnesota, we have successfully had well over 500 people in attendance, and many
others that participated, and support these untapped efforts.

Also as VC, he have asked tough questions to staff and our city elected officials which made them uncomfortable
at times. But, this was as a result of  the immense frustrations by residents, which described the city's efforts as
being very unpromising and non-productive. I have had city inspectors come out to residents homes, after their
yards were flooding as a result of developers neglect; defended small business owners where the city officials
were trying to deny fair and equal access to small businesses, attended meetings where the city have purposely
tried to dis-include the residents in the process and has defended our city against false claims and the many
misunderstood residents who true heartfelt stories goes untold.

Boyd is no stranger to confronting challenges or to speaking-up, speaking-out, speaking-clearly, speaking-loudly
and speaking-often,  as he has appeared before the House of Representatives and met with Senators, as the
spokes person for the Equality Campaign. The Equality Campaign advocates for Human and Civil Rights for all
Minnesotans. He appeared on WCCO to discuss the many inequities identified, not just in the state but, in Brooklyn
Park. Where the state received a failing grade "F" for enforcing Human and Civil Rights and the Governor received a
D-.

Boyd attended Wellstone Action and received an award for being one of the Top Candidates of his class. As an
attendee,  he learned that grassroot organizing is the way to reach the many stakeholders, and by going out to
where the people are at. It will present them with an opportuintity to learn more about him and for him to learn more
abnout the issues and concerns.  "It is my purpose to listen, learn and educate myself on the needs and concerns
of the community, to better enable me to become a more affective, engaged and invovled in the issues of the
community, to readily meet their needs.

A native Detroiter, Boyd attended Wayne State University, United States International University, Wayne County
Community College and Olympic Community College and became involved in the criminal justice process. Boyd
campaigned for City Council while in Detroit and showed the city how to raise 11 Million Dollars. Appointed Policy
Council Chair and Policy Committee Chair for the City of Detroit. He also served as Budget Chair and Personnel
Policy Committee Chair and served as Master-at-Arms for the State of Michigan Head Start Council. He co-founded
Adopt-A-Cop youth Mentorship Program, while working with the Detroit Police Department-7th Precinct. . A program
that was introduced and supported by the many Officer's in the 7th Precinct. Officer's that would get involved in their
spare time and mentor troubled youth from within the 7th Precinct area. To help them become pro actively involved
and committed to the city while helping to reduce and control unwanted crime amongst troubled youth. Also
helping to steer their misguided paths into a more positive and productive place in society.

As President/CEO of Urban Kidz Organization, he is working to
develop an After School and Out-of-School Time Youth Enrichment
programs, for a lost generation of misunderstood, misguided and
troubled youth within Brooklyn Park. His connection to the youth
community and unwaivering willingness to organize efforts that
reaches out to those 70% of youth that's unaware of programs and
the 30% that is not involved in any type of youth outreach
programming. The overwhelming number of youth that are not
being served, speaks volumes for his commitment  to reach out to
those in need South of 85th. He's not afraid to boldly go where our
present leadership hasn't gone and/or has demonstrated their
unwillingness to go. Boyd is committed to travel and has been
proactively involved  within our community to learn the needs of the youth and meet them where they are and not
have them to come to him.

In his personal time he enjoys spending time with his family, friends and new grandson "Tigger"! He serves as a
member of the Twin Cities Postal Consumer Advisory Council, Red Cross, Haven-4-Kidz and many other
organizations. He's also invited and well received as a facilitator teaching Law Enforcement and Community
Engagement Training for Police and Sheriffs Departments. But hasn't been called upon by our own Police
Department.

He is truly in the community, with the community for the community!
